Achieving our main goal - implementing a global moratorium on research in the field of Artificial Intelligence (and ensuring, for decades to come, that no politician changes their mind in a moment of euphoria) - is undoubtedly an extremely complex and difficult task.
It requires in-depth research, legislative work, and the development and implementation of a global communications strategy. And although we would like to believe that ideals and the righteousness of the cause alone are enough, we know that this is not the case. If we are to implement a moratorium before AI researchers cross the point of no return, we must bring together a significant number of specialists. And, unfortunately, this requires adequate financial resources.
This is also important because our opponents are corporations with funds amounting to tens or even hundreds of billions of dollars—corporations that can afford to pay for lobbyists and marketing campaigns. If we are to have even the slightest chance of standing up to them, the economy must become our ally.
For this reason, we have decided to launch the Humanity Defence Fund—a special-purpose fund whose resources will be used to bring about a moratorium and then to ensure that the resulting regulations are maintained over the coming decades.
